Garbage & Recycling
Household garbage and recyclables should be placed in a container at the curb the evening prior to the scheduled day of collection. There is a limit of three 30-gallon bags per household. Pick up day for the village is every Tuesday, except for the following 2024 holidays:
- New Year’s Day (Jan. 1) will be picked up on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
- Memorial Day (May 27) will be picked up on Wednesday, May 29.
- Labor Day (Sept. 2) will be picked up on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Items That Will Not Be Picked Up
- Discarded clothing
- Toys
- Furniture
- Appliances
- Wood or yard waste
- Brush
- TV or computer monitors
- Batteries
- Tires
- Liquid waste
- Scrap steel
- Carpet
- Construction waste
The Chautauqua County Transfer Station on S. Work Street in Falconer can be reached at 665-6894 for information on disposal.
Syringe Disposal
Do not put syringes of any type in garbage or recycling! Call UPMC Chautauqua for information on disposal (716-487-0141).
Recycling
Recycling is collected at your curb every week. There is no need to sort recyclables. Simply place all acceptable items into a rigid container marked for recycling. Please do not put recyclables in plastic bags.
Acceptable Items
- Cardboard: cereal boxes, pasta boxes, shoe boxes
- Paper: newspapers, junk mail, envelopes, catalogs, soft cover books, telephone books, brown bags, file folders, magazines, and inserts
- Plastic: containers #1 – #7 (milk jugs, bleach, detergent, shampoo bottles)
- Cans: aluminum, tin, steel containers (pie plates, trays, foil) – nothing with chemicals previously in them
All items must be clean and residue free.
Not Acceptable Items
- Glass of any kind
- Food waste
- Styrofoam
- Plastic bags
- Printer cartridges (toner or inkjet)
- Cell phones
- Batteries
- Computers or other electronics
- Ridged plastic (laundry baskets, pails, etc.)
